Companies can easily help mitigate these scenarios by training the parents in the workplace. By learning how to recognize the indicators of addiction and substance abuse, parents can preempt a family crises before it starts. Additional training can assist parents in discovering how best prevent an addiction, and how to handle a child with an existing addiction. Armed with knowledge, a parent becomes more confident in their ability to handle their home and family issues.

Training sessions are available online or on-site, and generally do not take more than a few hours to complete. Many foundations and non-profit alliances offer this service free of charge. The vast majority of parents leave company-sponsored training programs feeling more valued by their employer, and are more confident in their ability to handle a family crises without affecting their workplace performance.
